Project Development Manager - Ian Warden

Project Development Manager, Ian Warden, a geologist, brings a mixture of technical and market and project analysis skills to DNi.

Ian previously worked for Rio Tinto Coal Australia, and most recently for AME Mineral Economics, one of the leading minerals and mining research houses. At Rio Tinto Ian occupied roles in exploration, mine planning and market analysis, based within Australia and in China. Hiss responsibilities at AME included producing market research focusing on the iron ore and coal markets, forecasting supplydemand balances and prices, as well as managing the bulk commodities mine cost analysis team.

As Direct Nickel’s Project Development Manager, Ian is responsible for reviewing laterite projects and potential worldwide, identifying properties which provide greatest opportunity for Direct Nickel, developing and executing strategies to capture these opportunities, as well as supporting existing activities aimed at bringing the Direct Nickel process into commercial production.

Process Engineer - Dr Fiona McCarthy

Process Engineer, Dr Fiona McCarthy has a Bachelor of Metallurgical Engineering & PhD in Process Metallurgy from the Uni of NSW Fiona’s recent experience has included several years as a resources industry for AME Mineral Economics, in the role of senior analyst.

Over the past year, with DNi, Fiona has been in Charlotte with process inventor Bill Drinkard and his team in their laboratory learning the DNi Process chemistry while the testwork was underway to verify the process.

Her overseas posting has been a key part of DNi’s technology transfer to bring the knowledge back to Australia where, from April 2009, she established DNi’s laboratory in Perth at CSIRO’s Waterford facility.

Corporate Development Head - Ian Bain

Corporate Development Head, Ian Bain was former Global Head of Mining and Metals Corporate Finance for ABN AMRO Bank NV with thirty years experience in the corporate and banking sectors much of which has been in the mining and metals and oil and gas arena globally. ..With a Bachelor of Business and a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University, Ian has a broad commercial background covering accounting, treasury, debt and equity raising, transaction structuring and due diligence.

Ian’s experience covers building materials, engineering, gold refining, coal, iron ore, magnesia, gold, base metals, mineral sands, chrome, manganese and various other commodities. He has worked for and carried out numerous assignments for clients such as BHP Billiton, Codelco, Vale, ENRC, MMK, Yamana, Newcrest, Lihir Gold, Glencore, Macarthur Coal, UK Coal, Gloucester Coal, Boliden, CITIC, Independent State of PNG and many others.

Since leaving ABN AMRO in London mid 2008 and returning to Australia Ian has been advising a number of domestic and international clients on strategy, acquisition opportunities, due diligence and equity raising activities across a broad spectrum of commodities.
